Youth Outside is looking for individuals to join our volunteer External Advisory Panel, which will be charged with reading approximately 30 Letters of Intent (LOI) and assisting Youth Outside with selecting those LOIs that will move on to the next phase of review.
We are looking to have a minimum of 5 panelists, ideally who are:
a) From diverse backgrounds and professions;
b) In an upper management or ED position;
c) People of color;
d) Gender diverse;
e) Familiar with the world of outdoor recreation/education and the importance of connecting youth to the outdoors (panelists do not need to be from the outdoor field); and
f) Understanding of the meaning and significance of cultural relevancy.
Youth Outside defines cultural relevancy as the ability to effectively reach and engage communities and their youth in a manner consistent with the cultural context and values of that community, while effectively addressing disparities of diversity and inclusion within an organization's entire structure.
- Beginning Friday, December 16, 2016 the External Advisory Panel will receive the LOIs, along with an evaluation tool that will help panelists assess and score the LOIs.
- The External Advisory Panel is meeting in-person at Youth Outside's office in downtown Oakland on either Tuesday, January 17 or Friday January 20, 2017.
