WINTER CLASS: Equity and Inclusion

Youth Outside to Teach Graduate Courses in Partnership with Antioch University

Antioch University has created a groundbreaking Master of Arts in Education in Urban Environmental Education program that prepares students for leadership roles in environmental education with a focus on urban systems and social justice. Youth Outside is partnering with them to deliver a suite of 5 courses on City-Centric Urban Education through an off-campus program located in Oakland.

The winter course, “Equity and Inclusion:  Equity, Race, Culture and Environment,” begins January 24, 2019.

What is the relationship between Antioch University and Youth Outside?

Antioch University, located in Seattle, WA, offers an Urban Environmental Education master program. Youth Outside is serving as a partner organization delivering part of the curriculum of that masters program in Oakland, Ca. Antioch holds the accreditation for the courses offered by Youth Outside.

How much will it cost to take this course?

Each unit is $450.00 (reduced from Antioch University's typical unit cost of $650). This course is 3 units of course work, so the total cost for enrolling and taking this course is $1,350.00.

Where will classes be held?

Classes will mostly take place in the Historic Central Building, 436 14th Street,Oakland, CA. Occasional field trips will occur in local parks and public lands.

What are the dates and times of classes?

Classes begin on Thursday, January 24, 2019 and will culminate on Thursday, March 28, 2019.

Classes happen every Thursday from 4:30 - 7:30pm.

What are the academic benefits of taking this course?

  • This course is one in a four part series (one course per quarter) that when taken together will result in 12 units of Masters Level coursework that applies toward matriculation to complete your Masters in Urban Environmental Education through Antioch University.

  • Should you complete all four courses in this series, and not matriculate to complete your masters degree,  you will receive a certificate recognizing your completion of masters level courses in City Centric Environmental Education.

Do I have to take all four courses?

You do not have to commit to taking all four courses. Each course is designed to stand alone and courses do not have to be taken in a particular order.
