Youth Outside is now accepting applications for a seasonal Program Assistant with the Outdoor Educators Institute.
The mission of Youth Outside is to ensure that the lived experience of all youth is honored as part of the outdoor experience.
For eight years now, the Outdoor Educators Institute (OEI) has supported the next generation of culturally relevant outdoor educators through hands-on field training as well as in-class training. OEI strengthens leadership and outdoor technical skills in young adults ages 18-24 who have been historically underrepresented in the outdoor education field, and provides a path to employment in outdoor education and recreation upon completion of the program.
We are excited to be running TWO cohorts simultaneously this fall. We are excited for this growth, and hope to bring on TWO* OEI Program Assistants to help make this year’s cohort experience a great one for our participants!!
Working under the guidance of the Program Manager, the OEI Program Assistants will be responsible for supporting OEI participants during evening and weekend programming.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assist in debriefing field experiences with trainees
Support participants in learning and strengthening culturally relevant outdoor skills
Report any medical or behavioral issues or concerns to the Program Manager
Assist in transporting participants to and from program delivery throughout the Bay Area
Valid CA Drivers License
Ability to drive 12-passenger van
Availability to fulfill job during evening and weekend hours
Experience working within groups that have experience with marginalization
Willingness and capacity to participate in physically demanding multi-day outdoor activities, with reasonable accommodation
Desired skills include...
Experience receiving feedback, and adjusting accordingly
Experience delivering feedback
Experience with the OEI program
This is a three-month long seasonal position. The weekly time commitment includes one evening a week, and up to three weekends each month. The weekend hours will range from a six-hour work day to multi-night field experience (that approximates 30 hours in a wilderness setting). Position begins Monday, August 5, 2019 and completes on Friday, December 13, 2019.
Salary & Compensation:
This is a three-month long seasonal position. The selected applicants will receive a $2,000.00 stipend and the opportunity to participate in various outdoor skills trainings. Opportunities to strengthen culturally relevant leadership skills when available and appropriate.
